Rose Princess of Hellrage Volume 2 Chapter 70

I need the help of a Neko Vampire

“Udanosuke-dono, I have just received a call from Everis-dono in the capital. The princess has returned to the capital.”

“Is that so?”

Udanosuke, following the etiquette of a samurai learned from his master before his death, bowed repeatedly while talking to the call mark.

The caller was Alastair from the rear command post.

The main force, including elite undead soldiers and Meat Tank No. 2, had reached the foot of the city wall, where not even a single arrow was flying anymore.

The city was already occupied, but they still had the task of searching for Ghislain, who had gone into hiding, and possibly assisting René.

Well, both the main force and Alastair had to make do with the fact that René had suddenly disappeared without even sending a telepathic command.

The “communication soldiers” who had been left behind between the capital and Terra Kaine relayed several call messages to Alastair from Everis in the capital

“So, what are we going to do?”

“As long as you have not received any new orders, nothing will change. You are to search for the candidate for crown prince, Ghislain. We cannot let him escape.”

“I understand.”

Although René’s sudden action was questionable, it was no reason to stop moving.

Although sometimes a warning to the Master may be necessary, it was never a breach of loyalty.

The undead created by René’s magic all had an unwavering and absolute loyalty to her.

They recognized that they were René’s personal property, and they were willing to devote themselves to her until the moment their existence came to an end. Of course, it was a prerequisite that René’s property should not be squandered.

“Hmmm …, and where should I look when you say I should look for him …?”

At that moment, Udanosuke became aware.

Udanosuke noticed the presence of a living person approaching from up ahead.

A knight was coming toward them through the open city gate.

The crest of the armor he wore belonged to a knight who was under Earl Keely’s command.

However, for some reason, both arms from the shoulders down were bare, without any clothing, let alone armor.

The knight was bare-handed, although he had a sword at his waist.

As the knight advanced alone toward the undead hordes, numerous swords and spears were pointed at him.

Then, the knight.

“Udanosuke-dono, some troops around the city gate are not responding to our communications. Please check on the situation…”

“Take…!”

Udanosuke interrupted the communication from Alastair with swearing.

Something strange was happening.

The knight’s arms seemed to bloat, and his hands morphed into a huge thing with a long neck like an Earthworm.

It was white and clothed in an unusual holy energy.

The knight then began to devour the nearest undead at random with his arms.

The undead’s bodies were swallowed through the arms (or was it the neck?) like a snake swallowing its prey.

“Heh, reduce them… I have to…minions of the… “Rose Princess of Hellrage”… I can win… I can win… I can win… I can win … against these guys.”

The knight smiled a snorting, twisted smile.

“…Ghis…lain…!”

The armor popped off and the knight’s silhouette swelled into disorder.

A two-headed dragon manifested; its pure white flesh half-rotted.

Everis was looking out over castle walls through the window of her workshop with her magic binoculars.

There was a hole in the dungeon at the outer edge of the castle wall under construction, like a mole had dug its way in.

It was the result of René, who had turned into a silver wyvern zombie, chasing after the intruder and digging through it.

“Hmmm…was it too much of a bother to cut off the magic supply to the dungeon? That form of Princess-sama is untested, so I don’t know how much damage the traps did take…”

Everis chuckled to herself.

René suddenly stopped digging and led the troops flying outside.

Apparently, because the anti-magic defense of the entire dungeon was turned off, the intruders were able to escape by teleporting outside.

However, in the short time between when the anti-magic defense was turned off and when the intruders escaped, Everis was able to grasp the situation to some extent.

“…Two people are dead … The ones on the run are … there are probably three of them, although they’ve already disappeared. Well, it’s only a matter of time.”

Everis had tied the alarm of the “Chest with High Intent to Kill” that she had given to René to go off for her as well, just in case.

So she understood that the intruders had touched the chest and that was why René had come back.

However, Everis did not know what René had hidden in the chest.

Or rather, Everis did not even know that René had hidden the chest in such a place. If she had asked her about it, she would have been able to find a better hiding place, but René seemed to want to keep it a secret.

Everis watched René fly away with a feeling of uncertainty about what had happened and how it had come to this.

Then the call mark came in, and Everis picked it up from the side of her extremely low-fabric pants.

“Yes, hello. What’s the matter, Sir Gerald?”

“… Ghislain has attacked the main force. We’re returning fire, but the damage is heavy.”

Not to say she couldn’t believe her ears, but Everis couldn’t help but frown.

“Huh? Wasn’t the guy already in shambles?”

“He is replenishing his body by taking in our soldiers. He was targeting the living as prey earlier, so I get the impression that it was a desperate measure.”

“That’s right. If a holy beast eats an undead, it will get a stomach ache.”

“But he has regained his fighting ability, albeit temporarily.”

Everis looked up at the night sky in disgust.

“Uh-huh, we can’t afford to lose Udanosuke and “Blue Silver Bond” here. Can you handle it? … Impossible! You went to the trouble of contacting me, didn’t you? Mooo! All right, use Meat Tank No. 2 Hilbert as a shield and hold out for three minutes! You can use that thing to your heart’s content! And call Tracy! He’s nearby, right!?”

“Certainly.”

“…The Princess is … going to kill me too if I speak to her right now.”

Everis tossed the call mark, and the cloak, hat, and staff inlaid with countless jewels, which were hanging in the corner of the room, came flying out and clad her in them.

“A good witch should be behind the scenes with a glass of wine in her hand. I want a competent servant who can go to battle in my place at times like this. I want a beautiful, handsome boy!”

While grumbling and complaining, Everis prepared herself with the speed of a gust of wind.

She put on the things that flew from here and there in the room, which looked like piles of junk.

Jeweled gloves, a basket with gears and steam vents sticking out of it, a belt with a lot of pouches on it, a scarf with a magic circle-like pattern sewn all over it, and so on.

As she ran out of the workshop without closing the door, she saw a maid covered in blood running toward her.

“Everis-sama, what is happening…?”

“Mialanze! You can get up already?”

Mialanze had been maturing in the basement.

She had shiny short black hair and pointy triangular ears. Her pupils were round and dark because of the time of day.

Her originally fair complexion had turned snowy and bloodless, and the marks of her vomiting showed through. Her common maid’s uniform was stained here and there with her own blood.

“I decided that this was no time to take a break. I heard a scream in the basement a few minutes ago, so I assumed that the Princess had returned urgently…”

“Oh… I see. It was that close, huh?”

The room where René’s “Remaining Lives” were stored was not far from the unlit cell where Mialanze was holed up.

Mialanze seemed to notice something was wrong when René possessed the girl’s body and she screamed.

“I don’t know why, but it seems that intruders in the capital have opened the Princess’s precious treasure chest. It’s okay, though, because the Princess is in pursuit with all of the guard teams in the capital. But now that the Princess has returned, things are a bit worse on the Terra Kaine side. The main force may be wiped out if things continue as they are, and I’m on my way to help.”

Explaining quickly, Everis was about to leave, but then she suddenly braked.

Everis searched Mialanze’s presence, who was surprised and bewildered.

The quantity and quality of the evil energy in her body would tell how much power she possessed.

Mialanze was an amateur who had just begun to learn the art of fighting. And that hadn’t changed, but the presence she emitted was different.

The pressure was different. The power was different.

She was a very high-class vampire. She was still a rough gem, but she had the potential to even become a top-level leader in the Demon King’s army if she could develop her skills.

After weighing the risk of bringing Mialanze, an amateur fighter, along with her usefulness as a fighting force, Everis immediately responded.

“I would be extremely reassured if you could come. Sorry for the work so soon after your birth, but can you come …? Mialanze.”

“If I can fight for the Princess, I would be happy to.”

“Good. Shall we go and protect the Princess’s precious pawns?”

The back of the maid’s uniform was torn off in a messy manner, and the wings of the membrane that grew from the back were swaying together with the black cat tail.
