The Mid-Boss Hides the Heroines Chapter 176

How to Enjoy Vacation (4)

In Bread Academy, most players spend their vacation deepening relationships with heroines.

While some stay within the Academy, passionately strategizing their way through trials, others venture beyond its gates—to mountains, fields, seas, and rivers—laughing and enjoying events with the heroines.

However, there are those who throw cold water on these sweet, heartwarming relationships. They are none other than Vinyudan.

Addressing the students of Bread Academy.

“Milk monsters! Die!”

These entities harbor malice as deep as the abyss itself.

It could be described as petty jealousy, but some call it the Flat Revolution waged by the “impoverished” against the “wealthy”.

– Ridiculous, you say? That is the craftiness of the Bread Academy developers! We must see the context! A scathing critique of capitalism hidden within the towering peaks!

You might scoff, questioning what critique of capitalism could exist in a game company that profits by selling bikini skins for female characters in every color of the rainbow.

Yet when such a game gains cult-like popularity, achieving worldwide acclaim and even securing the title of GOTY, the hidden philosophies of its developers may start to shine through.

Whether there is truly profound philosophy behind it, or whether it’s merely a device to mock flat-chested characters, from the perspective of someone stranded in this world, it’s utterly absurd.

“Being targeted for having a big chest? Unbelievable.”
“Indeed.”

Ludmila answered, glancing out the opposite window of the Golden Carriage, where two blonde, Bread Academy students watched nervously.

“Absurd as it may seem, what they intend to do to us if they capture us is truly horrifying. Were it up to me, I’d capture them immediately and hand them over to the army.”
“Not that easy. Few nations or nobles are keen on imprisoning members of Vinyudan.”

Evangeline objected to Ludmila’s words with a pale face.

“The best option is to knock them out. Killing them will only provoke vengeance, but leaving them unconscious and incapacitated will end things—for now.”

In this world, calling the police isn’t a viable solution.

“The Di Ercy Empire’s prisons have been destroyed repeatedly by Vinyudan t*rrorists. They break out, unleashing explosive magic, killing guards, and claiming they’re rescuing comrades!”

The Vinyudan are extreme t*rrorists.

On the surface, they might seem like a minor nuisance, akin to some small-time event villains in a gacha game, the kind that appear briefly during a maritime storyline with a dramatic “Aaah?!” and are promptly defeated.

However, in reality, they are a terror organization that gives the entire continent headaches.

I’ve personally experienced their terror.

On the day Yunia and I were traveling to the Academy, they hijacked the magic train heading to the Academy’s entrance exam, preventing many prospective students from attending.

“I heard they were at least tolerable until last year, but this year… I never thought they’d go this far!”
“It’s because of Mana Drain, Princess.”

Yurha responded while channeling mana into her wand and firing a magic missile.

“They’ve been having a lot of fun using Mana Drain to forcibly extract mana from men.”
“I know that, but…!”
“And about two weeks ago, those who had been boosting their cup size from AAA to AA using mana drain began to decrease one by one. …Thanks to someone’s miracle.”
“So now they’re targeting us—especially me—so viciously?”
“That seems to be the case. If it weren’t for your Magic Pants, Junior Phoenix, they could’ve continued draining magic from men and escaped their predicament!”

Absurd as it sounds, this is the reality of this world.

The miracle of the magic pants.

Using the financial backing of Silverstar, Yurha established a factory in the Marquisate of Ludvecia to mass-produce the magic pants and distribute them at a low price.

Many people began to enjoy the miracle of these pants.

“To think they’d try to kill Phoenix for inventing a crime prevention device that stops them from committing crimes against men…!”

Yunia was indignant, but that’s the way of the world.

‘A miracle that satisfies everyone doesn’t exist.’

Not everyone rejoiced at this miracle.

99% of men were delighted that they could protect their mana and chastity. 90% of women were glad their fathers, brothers, and sons could retain their virtue.

But the remaining 10%—perhaps only 1%, hopefully—resented the magic pants.

It had been a prime opportunity to capture men and effortlessly increase their magic reserves, but now that opportunity was gone.

Of course, some resorted to taking men to secluded places, secretly abducting them into basements, and forcibly removing their magical underpants to perform mana drain.

“Maybe I should’ve skipped the alarm spell for forced removal?”
“Even without the alarm magic, they’d still try to kill Phoenix.”

However, even such attempts were nearly impossible now.
The magic pants responded to “magic” and could read the wearer’s mana.

If someone tried to forcibly remove them against the wearer’s will, an alarm would immediately sound, alerting everyone in the vicinity.

– Help! Someone is trying to assault me!

Such a desperate voice would ring out, signaling that forced Mana Drain was occurring.

And so—

“Get lost, you parasites! Die, Golden Sun, our archenemy!!”
“They’re calling you Golden Sun instead of Phoenix now.”

Currently, Vinyudan knew that Yurha’s Golden Carriage, with the Vermilion Bird Class and me aboard, was heading their way.

They pursued us on bikes, launching an attack.

Hihihing!
The horses pulling the carriage sped up.

The Vinyudan aimed their magic rifles at the horses, trying to shoot them, but the magic stone bullets they fired never reached the horses.

Clang, Clang!

Instructor Esta, standing atop the carriage roof, swung her sword, intercepting the incoming bullets.

Judging by her expression, she was likely irritated from lack of sleep, but even her menacing demeanor didn’t deter Vinyudan.

“Hey.”

Instructor Esta tapped the roof—or, for us inside, the floor—with her foot.

“They seem more serious than I thought.”
“A-hahaha!!”

A familiar laugh echoed.

As a player, I recognized it instantly, but for Yunia, who had only met them once before, it was more of a puzzling “Huh?” moment.

“The Seven Executive Officers of Vinyudan.”
“I will kill you, Phoenix!!”

A woman in a black helmet, riding parallel to the carriage and screaming threats to kill me, had a black rose tattoo stretching from her shoulder to her abdomen.

“That’s…!”
“[Crimson Magic Bullet]. I’m not entirely sure because of the helmet, but she’s probably someone we’ve met before. Miss Yunia, do you remember?”

I pointed at the Vinyudan officer aiming a magic rifle at us.

“The woman with black hair and crimson eyes who hijacked the train we were taking to the Academy.”
“…Slend?”
“Slendia.”

Bang!

Vinyudan officer Slendia fired a magic bullet at the carriage.

The magic energy infused in the finely sharpened magic stone projectile was more powerful than expected, dodging through Yunia’s magic missile barrage like a homing missile before striking the carriage.

Clang!

The bullet struck the carriage window.
Although the glass didn’t shatter, the scratch it left made someone grit her teeth.

“Ah, damn it…”

Yurha openly expressed her displeasure.

It was the equivalent of a rock hitting a car’s windshield—something that would irritate even the wealthiest individual.

Hah. If it were up to me, I’d stop the carriage and beat them all down right now…!”

I felt the same.

I wanted to halt the carriage and knock out every single one of the Vinyudan members attacking us. However, there were more troublesome individuals following behind them.

“If we slow down, the knights behind the Vinyudan will catch up to us.”
Hah…!”

Yurha turned to look at me.

“This is why I said we should distribute the Magic Pants only to VIPs!”
“Even if we did, wouldn’t the Emperor of the Empire have sought them out anyway?”
“At least the knights wouldn’t be chasing us with such zeal!”

Behind the Vinyudan attackers, a unit of knights clad in golden armor approached on horseback.

“Protect the [Miracle Evangelist]!”

“Get lost, you useless wretches! Women who don’t even have anything to feed a baby with!”
“W-what did you just say?!”

The knights, mostly men, fought off the Vinyudan with unrelenting precision, often striking them in the solar plexus with their sword hilts.

“Miracle Evangelist!”

“Protector of Men!”
“Please, stop and hear our plea!!”

“Thank goodness this isn’t my empire.”

Evangeline grimaced at the sight of the golden-armored knights.

“Your fervent fans are chasing you. How about giving them a little fan service as the Miracle Evangelist who saved their lower halves?”
“I’ll pass.”

Regardless of their valiant fight against the Vinyudan, I had no intention of getting close to those knights.

“Even if they were all blonde beauties, I’d hesitate to meet them. And they’re all muscle-obsessed men? No, thank you.”
“But the Emperor’s Golden Knights are directly under his command and want to meet you, Phoenix.”
“Let them meet the Vinyudan instead.”

“That’s a bit much.”

Currently, we were running away from two options.

A group of sweaty, muscular men clinging to me in gratitude.

The curses and jealousy of women bandaged so tightly that no curves were visible.

Instead of facing either, we were fleeing.

“If it’s between dealing with them or…”

Not just running aimlessly—

“I’d rather run into Mama’s arms.”

We were headed south, toward her domain.

“They’re here.”

In the blue sky, a massive magic circle unfolded.

“They’ve finally arrived.”
“…The Marquisate of Ludvecia.”

As we passed through the black “veil”—

Boom! Boom! Boom!
Black gem-like magic bullets began raining from the sky.
