I, a high school teacher, was transferred with my students to another world Volume 1 Chapter 2

When I Woke Up, I was in Another World

“Hmm… Hmm?”

I wondered how long I had been unconscious, and when I opened my eyes, I was lying on a bed. I rushed to get up, but was struck by dizziness and failed to stand up as though I had lost control of myself.

Where am I? … Where are the students?

The room I was sleeping in was a Western-style room about eight tatami mats in size. Still, it felt strange…

I searched around and found my shoes on the side of the bed. I guessed it was a room to enter with shoes on. Is it a hotel or something?

I felt my light-headedness calming down a little, and I managed to put on my shoes and stand up. Then I realized that I was wearing clothes I had never seen before. I looked around in a panic and saw that my clothes were neatly folded and placed on a shelf.

Taking my own clothes, I took the clothes I was wearing off and began to change. When I took off my pants, I noticed that I was wearing some kind of exaggerated diaper-like garment. It was not particularly damp to the touch. I was relieved to see that I had not done anything inappropriate.

My footsteps were still shaky, but I had to make sure the students were safe. After I manage to finished getting dressed, I finally approach the door and put my hand on the bar-shaped doorknob.

Hmm?

I had expected a normal door that opened with a push or pull, but it turned out to be a sliding door that slid sideways.

What?

A sense of discomfort grew. I suddenly looked at the ceiling and … finally realized what the discomfort was. The ceiling of this room was missing something that was common in every house in Japan. Lighting system.

What is this place…?

I opened the door and went outside without knowing where I was going. There was a longer hallway than I expected.

While I was hesitating whether to go right or left, I felt a presence from the right. As I was looking in that direction, I saw a woman coming up the stairs in the middle of the corridor. The woman was dressed in… what might be called a nun’s outfit, like that worn by the clergy. She had blonde hair, a face reminiscent of a Westerner’s, and slightly long ears sticking out of her hair. My sense of discomfort was further heightened.

The woman turned toward me as she climbed the stairs. She noticed me immediately, looked a little surprised, then smiled and came toward me.

“Excuse me. Is this…?”

“■■■■■■■■■”

“Eh?”

“■■■■■■■■■”

Hey … what is she saying? On the contrary, is this a language? The pronunciation is completely foreign compared to English, French, Chinese, or any other language I’ve heard.

“I’m sorry… I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

“■■■■■■■■■?”

The woman seemed to realize that I was having trouble understanding her. She made gestures with her hands as if to ask me to follow her. I was standing there, not knowing what to do, when the woman impatiently took my hand.

“What????”

“■■■■■■■■■”

I certainly didn’t want to just stand around. I followed the woman’s hand as she led me. The woman went down the stairs she came from and went down to the lower floor. This floor, like the previous one, had a hallway running through it. I didn’t feel comfortable with the woman’s hand leading me down the corridor, so I gestured to her that I would follow her, and I did.

The room I was led to was quite spacious, with a number of tables lined up in a row. It looked like a cafeteria, like a school cafeteria… The students inside the room were dressed in old-fashioned clothes that I have never seen before, and they were eating happily.

“Oh, you guys are okay!”

The students turned around at the sound of my voice. But compared to my relief at seeing them safe and sound, their reactions were not as enthusiastic as I had expected.

“Huh? What happened? You guys…”

When I asked out of curiosity, Domoto answered.

“Ah, Sensei… you’re awake.”

“Huh? That happens, no… hmm? Have I … been asleep that long?”

“About three days. The light seems to be too much for old people.”

“O-old people???”

The students chuckled at Domoto’s words. I’m only 32,… but I look old to a high school student,… or more importantly, light? … Come to think of it, I remember that light coming from the ceiling at that altar, glowing like it was filling the whole room, does he mean that? … Surely that light was the last thing I remember seeing, so that’s how I blacked out.

But still, three days asleep? Certainly my beard has grown too. Maybe I really did sleep that long. Damn. I don’t know what’s going on. There are so many questions I want to ask, my mind is a bit confused, …but for now I need to check if all the students are present.

If I recall correctly, the five male athletes who went to the closing ceremony at that time: Kyohei Domoto, Akira Kohinata, Tetsuya Sato, Daiji Tsuji, and Tomonori Ikeda, who were 3rd year students, and 2nd year students. Then there were the girls, 3rd year Kimishima Yuzuki, and 1st year Takato Nishina who was told to go get bags … hmm? Why is there a first-year girl, Miki Sakuragi?

“Sakuragi? Was she with us at the time?”

“Oh, yes… She tried to … go to the bathroom, and Sensei was behind her…”

“I see,… so … where are we?”

I ask the students, and Kohinata answered with a grin.

“Another world. Old men wouldn’t understand, would they?”

I felt uncomfortable with the way Kohinata spoke, but I had been sleeping alone for three days leaving my students behind. I felt guilty, so I listened with patience.

“Another world? What’s that?”
“Oi oi. Don’t you even know that, what kind of era are you from?”

Kohinata spoke in a more foul-mouthed, mocking manner. I took note of this.

“Hey, Kohinata. There is a little more to it than that.”

“Shut up! This isn’t Japan. Don’t act like a teacher!”

“What!?”

Suddenly, I looked around and saw that there was something strange in the air among the students. They looked at me coldly, as if the manner of Kohinata’s speech was natural. No, the two first-year students still look as if they were feeling bad about it… The captain, Domoto, also gave me a cold look.

“You guys… what the…”

“Well, you know, Sensei. I know you’ve just woken up and you don’t know what’s going on. We’ve been painfully reminded over the past three days that we can’t go back to our lives in our world…”

Domoto stood up and motioned me toward the window. I had no choice but to do as he asked and approached the window.

“Look at this. This is the reality now.”

“Wha! What is… this…”

The view outside the window left me speechless. There was a strange sight that I had never seen before.

The building we were in was built on what looked like a small island, and further down, clouds could be seen. There were a number of similar small island-like structures floating around it. A few of the larger islands had buildings on them, connected to each other by what looked like suspension bridges. Everything seemed to be floating in the sky.

“… Do you understand?”

“…”

“I know it’s hard for adults over thirty to understand. We were sent here. We were…”

“… We’ve been transferred?”

“Another world. You’ve heard of it, right?”

Another world transfer??? What’s that? I’ve never heard of it. Is it …. common knowledge to young people? Since it’s called “another world”, does that mean it’s not Earth? We were transferred here?

I don’t understand.

I try desperately to control myself from panicking.

Huffing, I took a deep breath, and soon I notice that I begin to calm down. Strangely enough, my mind becomes calm.

…What is this? That’s enough. I’m the adult here, I have to be strong.

I made up my mind. I looked around at the students.
